[Cuba's been home most of the day, reading the paper and trying to forget about the fact that he now had to deal with Spain here.

Oh he'd gone out this morning to buy some flowes for Leliana. But that was about it.

Right now he's in the living room, either reading the sports section, or glancing at the Cuban flag on the wall. Or a bit of both...]

[Leliana has spent most of the morning in the library, reading up on this Valentine's Day thing that people have been talking about. Thankfully, the library counts 'romantic holiday advice' as appropriate reading material for women, so she's actually been able to find a lot of information ranging from the holiday's origins to some current means of celebrating it. From what she can gather, today is a day to celebrate romance and True Love and buying people pretty things. This, of course, means one thing:

Valentine's Day is Leliana's new favorite holiday.

Cuba is the closest thing she has to a lover in Mayfield (which is not at all a bad thing--she very much likes her not!husband), so she has decided come hell or high water that they are celebrating. She purchases some wine and the necessary ingredients for a Nice Dinner. She would have also bought him those cigars that he likes except she doesn't know which cigars he actually likes and is pretty sure she can't buy them in an American town even if she did.

So, she's going to suggest ice cream after dinner. Who cares if it's frigid outside--it's a holiday. Besides, they go half the time, anyway.

She's just getting in when she finds him in the living room.]
Hello, Cuba! Happy Valentine's Day!

[He glances away from the flag...I mean paper.]

Leliana...?

[He then realizes what she said and he grins.]

Oh yeah. Happy Valentines Day.

I've never heard of this holiday before, but it sounds wonderful. So, I decided we should try to celebrate it as well as we can.

[She's completely oblivious to the fact that over half the town is currently dealing with emotional baggage right now. Oops.]

How does dinner and ice cream sound to you?

[So is he. Oh well....]

That sounds great....so long as we don't go to that French place again.

[Cardboard is not fun to eat.]

No, no, I would not put you through that. [She was a LOT more disappointed than he was that night. This town ruins everything.]

I will be making dinner.

[Yeah...not fun.]

You sure? It is supposed to be a holiday after all.

Part of the holiday is about how you're supposed to do something nice for a person you care for, isn't it? I do not mind.

[He grins and rubs the back of his neck.]

That reminds me. I got you something.

[And he'll just be a moment but he comes back into the room with a bouquet of pink and purple roses]

Happy Valentines day.

[Leliana's eyes go wide with surprise; she honestly hadn't expected him to do anything! Approval +10.

She gives him a hug.]
They're beautiful! Thank you so much!

[Like he could do that.]

I'm glad you like them.

I love them! Thank you.

[And she's off to go put them in some water. You're such a great not!husband, Cuba.]

[Leliana comes back from putting the flowers in a vase and gives him a smile.]

Shall I start dinner, then?

Sure...

[He glances over at the wall again.]

....Oh yeah. I need to talk to you about something too.

[Might as well get it over with.]

Spain's here now.

[That... wasn't what she expected to hear.]

He is? When did he arrive?

From: [identity profile] commie-island.livejournal.com
A few days ago.

[He sighs...]

And you know how people can be taken from different times and all that...?

Date: 2011-02-16 04:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bard-of-orlais.livejournal.com
I do.

When is he from? Not the same time as you, if you're leading with that question.

Date: 2011-02-16 04:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] commie-island.livejournal.com
No.

He's from the start of the war we had. Well the war he had with America....

He thinks I'm a just a rebelling colony.

From: [identity profile] bard-of-orlais.livejournal.com
Oh.

[That must be weird for him.]

Is there anything I can do on your behalf?

From: [identity profile] commie-island.livejournal.com
....we're probably going to have to put up with him.

For the most part I think we might have gotten some things sorted out. ...Told him I wasn't going to leave him..

Besides my sisters would kill me if I let anything too terrible happen to him.

"Put up with him"? He isn't going to try and meddle in your life here, is he?

[She doesn't comment on the lie. She understands that keeping things less honest is sometimes better.]

[Sorry just starts laughing. The amazement. Sorry, between laughs]

...All Papa does is meddle in lives...

[And no he did not call Spain papa, you misheard him.]

From: [identity profile] bard-of-orlais.livejournal.com
[She totally heard that--and it gives her a bit of a heartwarming feeling to hear. She gives him a smile.]

We'll have to learn how to hide when he comes over, then.

[Is she teasing? Possibly.]

From: [identity profile] commie-island.livejournal.com
[He chuckles]

That's a lot easier said then done. Believe me I know.

But yeah...he'll probably be dropping over now and then.

From: [identity profile] bard-of-orlais.livejournal.com
All right. I'll be on my best behavior and sing your praises when he's here, then.

From: [identity profile] commie-island.livejournal.com
You don't have to do that. Just thought I should warn you.

Well, it isn't as if they would be lies. [Smile~]

You're welcome.

[With a smile, she's off to make dinner. Which we'll skip, because that's boring. Unless you really want to log out them chewing their food...]

[But think of the fascinating conversation they'l...all right. After that.]

So what sort of holidays did you have at home?

Date: 2011-02-23 07:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bard-of-orlais.livejournal.com
Back in Val Royeaux? We used to have spectacular holidays. We would celebrate the New Year, which I've told you about before. And we would also celebrate the arrival of spring, which after months of freezing weather is certainly something worth celebrating. You are very lucky where you are from, that it doesn't get this cold. There is also the feast of Ser Aveline, patron of all female chevalier, which is a lesser holiday but still a story of national honor and pride. Have I told you her story, Cuba? [She forgets the stories she has and has not shared with him.]

There are many religious holidays, too, although for most people they are celebrated in ways that are indistinguishable from the more secular ones. There is always music and dancing and, for the upper classes, lavish parties and silly games. And, of course, we celebrate is the anniversary of the birth and of the death of the lady Andraste. The former is a grand celebration of life and joy, moreso than the average holiday. The latter is much more... somber. Perhaps the most somber of days we remember.

Yea, I miss the warm weather at home.

No, I don't think you have told me about her.
