[Cuba was out for another day of wishing he wasn't stuck in this American town, when he notices the large package by the mailbox. Opening it up he finds a familiar face....of a kind.

A. Outside the house. There is a crocodile outside the house. Cuba is grinning. That is never good.

B. Showing the crocodile the park. Hope you aren't in the water.

C. Walking through the town with a crocodile, pointing things out to him. No this is not strange. There's a lot of insulting American things though.]

[Okay that get's Cuba looking serious.]

Glad I don't come from your world.

Any reason they attacked?

[He looks a bit sour there.]

Yeah. Short answer: the Bane don't like havin' neighbors.

Every other member race in'a AFS is in'a same boat as us.

Sound like nice guys...

'least you've got allies though.

[Balin scoffs in agreement.]

Yeah. Real model galactic citizens.

Right now it's like, two other races plus'a Eloh. HIGHCOM's been desperate'a find more. No tellin' how many races out'ere got wiped out completely by'a Bane.

Shit.

And they just do this for the hell of it?

Well—

[Balin rubs the back of his neck.]

—the long story's kinda complicated, but'a excuse'a Bane use is'at nobody but themselves should be allowed'a use Logos. So since any sentient mind can potentially learn how to use it, every race in'a galaxy either has'a serve them, or die.

... Not like they give many races'a option.

Yeah. It's a system that lets'a sentient mind affect'a universe. Distinct from usin' technology. I've been tellin' people it's like magic, though I've had one guy tell me it ain't like magic at all.

[Balin shrugs.]

It's been a good enough analogy.

Seems like a good enough one.

Probably some guy who uses magic for real or something. They get picky about that.

Yeah. You know of Gilgamesh, right? An' how he's here in town? He wsa'a guy who said'at.

[Balin nods a bit, then he glances over to the crocodile. It's hard to tell of Balin's just noticed it or not.]

What's'a story on him, anyway?

This is Marco. Town sent him here. I ran into him when I was a kid and I've known him ever since.

Thunderstorm finally passed. x_o

"When you were a kid," that musta been ... when, Spain colonized your island?

[He's using what England told him about discovering America as a point of reference.]

Pretty docile for a crocodile.

[Balin doesn't even notice his rhyme on a dime.]

Yeah, round that time.

[Good times. And by good, he means worst childhood ever.]

He's used to people by now.

[Balin scratches the back of head as he looks at Marco. He does seem pretty chill, just laying there.]

How's'at work, anyway? I mean, he's around as old as you, so he'd be ... what, like five hundred years old?

I mean, I know how you guys tick 'cause I talked to Engla—Arthur about it, but what about Marco'ere?
From: [identity profile] walking-nuke.livejournal.com
[Balin just chuckles to himself and shakes his head slightly. He glances down a moment, realizing he'd had his Colt .45 out, partially disassembled, the whole time—he hadn't finished cleaning it.]

[So he takes a moment to get back to cleaning and reassembling the gun. Though it's not loaded, he's careful not to point it at Cuba or his crocodile. He'd rather not cause an international incident by making Cuba think he might shoot him or something.]
